Module 5: Logo

Hello,

So, when making my logo it seemed quite simple, but it turned out to be a little more thinking than I had thought. I experimented with different shapes and content, but I just couldn't seem to fit it all together, until I thought about what colors I was going to use. I knew I was going to include tiger stripes in my logo, because they are my favorite animal, they are the Buffalo State Mascot, and they represent fierce strive, ambition, and confidence. Therefore wanted to use the contradicting color, so I used the color wheel to see what was the opposite of orange. It is funny how the class material blends together when you least expect it.

I wanted my logo to represent my current state and my future goals as well. I used the tiger stripes to represent the school I am currently attending and the personal inspiration of ambition that i get when the symbol is present. Also, for the content I put my name on the outside, because I feel that it does not represent what I am, but the actions and ambitions in my life do. The focus of my logo is the tiger stripes and the word M.B.A. representing my future goal to earn an MBA. the arrow that "M.B.A." is in is shaded from light to dark, representing time. I wanted to use the shading to show that when the arrow is fully colored I will have achieved my goal of an MBA.

The most important thing I discovered is how I actually define myself. At first I thought the center focus of my logo was my name, but I realized that that is not what defines me. I looked deeper and realized that my main focus in life right now is school. This is why I used my present state of education and my future aspirations to define my logo and represent who i am.

The most important thing that I learned in the videos was the thought process that occurs when forming a logo. It is amazing that a person must take the elements of art such as symmetry, color, focus, and motion to make sure the message is reached by the customer. Now that I have the knowledge of the basic art fundamentals, I can look at a logo and define it in an entirely different point of view.

Here is four draft sketches and the final logo in color:
